Obama Wins Indiana

While the general election has been won by Barack Obama we still have yet to know the results of Missouri and North Carolina. Missouri seems to be leaning towards a McCain win while North Carolina seems to be giving it to Obama. I personally have been waiting to find out whether Indiana has turned blue or not. CNN has just reported that Indiana has been won by Barack Obama. What is interesting is that I the 2004 election Bush won Indiana 60% to 39% against Kerry. CNN reports that Obama projected lead in Indiana is 50% to 49%.

I could not believe that Obama won Indiana... I was watching the election coverage right after the Indiana polls closed and after the counts started coming in I thought Obama stood no chance... Obama was behind in Indiana most of the night... By the end of the night, I was amazed that Obama came from behind and took the victory... I think it is exciting to think of Indiana as a successful swing state since it has no happened since the 1964...

I too was waiting to see whether Indiana was going to go red or blue. I was amazed that it took so long to find a clear winner here, and that that winner was Obama! Obama won about 2/3 of Lake County here in Indiana and did almost the same in Indianapolis, while McCain won about 60% of the votes in the rural counties of Indiana. I believe overall Obama won Indiana by around 23,000 votes. That really makes me feel like my vote counted!

I also just read that 12% of Indiana participated in early voting. I wonder if that helped Obama win Indiana?

It is amazing to think about how republican Indiana was in 2004. I am glad that Indiana shifted this election because I do not think McCain earned our votes. In class the other day, we discussed that McCain had made roughly 3 visits to Indiana while Obama was in the 70's. This clearly depicts one of the variables that shifted roughly 10% of the voters this election.

I wonder if the McCain campaign even knew that they had a chance of losing Indiana? And if they did, since they didn't do that much about it, they must have realized that MANY of the other states were in this position also, and had to pay more attention to them. I bet the McCain campaign knew they were in a lot of trouble and just couldn't do anything about it. Obama's campaign was clearly more effective, at least here.

I remember watching the counts come in county by county. Obama was ahead early, but at certain points McCain was ahead by 70k. It was only once marion County and Lake county started coming in at full force that Obama took his large lead. In a predominantly red state, the more populated blue counties ruled this year.
