Lake County Election Troubles

When Myron Chenault came to speak to class about the election I was really surprised to hear about all of the "corruption" that is taking place in Lake County, Indiana. Voting is a right that all Americans should be able to exercise and for a political group to try to stop that right from being exercised is not right. Personally, I do not care who a person votes for as long as they vote, and this is the main reason I feel that stopping early voting is unfair because they are trying to stop the early voting based on an assumption and not a fact. What if you had an event to attend on test day and your teacher would not allow you to take the test early because they assumed what your answers would be and had already given you a grade. You would not think that is fair so why do some feel that stopping the voting early is fair. Lake County is just one example of how the bad side of politics is shown and why people are losing faith in the government and not voting.

I agree that limiting or voiding early voting would be a shame for our political system. Democracy functions on the basis of informed citizens who express their opinions through voting. Here is another question: with the advent of voting, is it still necessary to have an election DAY? Should polls (or stations like early vote stations) be open for a certain period of time (two weeks, a month) to increase the chance that everyone will vote? Will this be an advantage in that it better accommodates peoples' schedules, or will it disadvantage those who vote early in the case of a catastrophic event (actual or political) during the weeks the polls are open?

I like the idea that polling venues should be open for longer amounts of time... I do not see the problem with opening the polls in local grocery stores or other easily accessed facilities... This would increase the participation allowing more American's to get involved... I fail to see the logic behind limiting the polls to be open for one day...
